New Innovation in Fire and Rescue Equipment
As they work to keep their communities safe, fire services face tremendous challenges every day. Fire chiefs have to ensure their firefighters are always ready to go, while lowering their response times. With an unrelenting commitment to firefighter safety and a focus on exposure reduction, 3M Scott Fire & Safety engineered a product that enhances cleanability, comfort and connectivity, while meeting the performance requirements of the NFPA 1981 and NFPA 1982, 2018 Edition standards.
Safety and Performance Features for Today’s Firefighters
The Air-Pak X3 Pro combines high-performance material selection with an easy-to-remove harness for cleaning, decontamination and serviceability. With minimal water absorption, the harness assembly can be machine laundered to help with exposure reduction. The ability to launder the equipment at the fire station promotes better adherence to standard operating procedures and provides quick and easy access to the equipment when firefighters need to respond to the next call. The Air-Pak X3 Pro is designed to keep firefighters safe while providing a higher level of comfort. An enhanced shoulder harness design improves the ease of donning the SCBA, helping to minimize pressure points and reduce user fatigue. A naturally articulating waist pad provides the firefighter a greater range of motion, while transferring weight to the hips for a more balanced load. A proven regulator design offers low breathing resistance to help reduce user burden and improve operational efficiencies.
Accountability at Your Fingertips
Incident Command is tasked with many responsibilities on a fire scene, and personnel accountability is one of those items. Knowing the real-time status of a responder’s condition allows for effective management of those assets, but it is commonly seen as a difficult thing to accomplish without integral radio communications. In fact, personnel accountability and effective communications are two of the most critical components of a successful fireground operation — and can be the most challenging to preserve. The Air-Pak™ X3 Pro SCBA seeks to improve both. Offering enhanced electronics with Bluetooth® technology, the Air-Pak X3 Pro supports wireless connectivity for improved firefighter safety and fireground accountability. An electronic PAR feature allows incident command to reliably communicate with firefighters using the Scott Connect Monitor Pro software interface without creating additional radio traffic. Datadownloading and configuration changes are seamless using a wireless connection to smartphone devices. Incident command can see a responder’s air level, PASS, and EVAC data — all standard telemetry essentials on a simple, easy-to-understand interface. Additional alert notifications — high flow or no flow full alarm PASS conditions and system integrity alarm — provide enhanced situational intelligence to help guide critical decision making. These alert notifications are the biggest benefit of the Monitor telemetry software solution.
Exception Reporting
The chaos of a fire scene often develops to where command manages to the exceptions. Telemetry data is important for everyone wearing a SCBA, but immediate action needs to be taken to address the exceptions. An alternate view of the incident delivers just these exceptions or alerts — no news is good news. In this case, a blank screen is displayed under normal operations, while exception alerts appear with audible tones during an alarm condition, getting incident command’s attention at the most critical times.
